When you’re done, submit your Word document to your instructor using the Turnitin link at the bottom of the Assignment page in Canvas. (Do not submit via the writing prompt window in MindTap.) Taken together, the following documents reflect the vast complexities of Reconstruction—the era following the Civil War. As the federal and state governments reckoned with new Constitutional amendments, the Freedmen’s Bureau dealt with the immediate needs of the formerly enslaved, including schooling. Meanwhile, many Confederate leaders and prominent planters abandoned the South to seek exile and to attempt to reclaim their former pre-war existence. After studying these three sources, write a short essay response that details how the document or image serves as a response to the outcome of the Civil War. When possible, compare and contrast these Reconstruction-era documents, explaining how they represent the complexities of post-Civil War America. Submit your answer to your instructor in MindTap: 1. Open a new Microsoft® Word document and enter your response. Be sure to follow your instructor’s guidelines in regard to content, length, and formatting. 2. Save the file on your computer with your last name in the file name. (Example: chapter_01_reflection_Jones.doc) 3. The Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution (1868) had been a response to ensure that there would be powers given to the U.S. Congress for making and changing laws (Montoya et al., 2017). This is because there had been no other way to prevent a repetition of the Civil War. The citizens had to be satisfied about a body/group of chosen representatives to be fair in making and changing laws. The U.S. Senate and the Congress would be the chosen entities for whom the President would have to provide support. The President would also require to criticize any inappropriate actions taken by the Congress.
